Psalm 19:7

The Law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul;

In the digging deeper commentary I love this section I read

i. Part of the perfection of God’s word is that it is effective; it does the work of converting the soul. There is power in the reading and hearing and studying of the word of God that goes beyond intellectual benefit; it actually changes for the better – converts – the soul.

I have scripture playing in my home most days and this is the reason. I believe their is power in hearing the word of God. It can plant a seed in our hearts to go deeper in studying God’s word.

What about you? What stood out to you in our readings?

This really stuck with me. That phrase “reviving the soul” isn’t just poetic—it’s real life. God’s Word doesn’t just teach us things; it reaches places nothing else can. I appreciate how the commentary points out that Scripture actually does the work. Sometimes we don’t even realize what’s happening, but over time our hearts are softened, redirected, and strengthened.

I’m with you on having Scripture playing in the home. There’s real power in letting truth fill the air—even when we’re busy or not fully focused. Seeds are being planted. Faith grows quietly that way.

From the readings, what stood out to me was the contrast between Job’s honesty and Jesus’ authority. Job doesn’t hide his confusion or pain from God, and God doesn’t turn him away for it. Then in Matthew 21, Jesus enters the temple and restores what was meant to be a place of prayer. Both remind me that God welcomes honest hearts and is always working to restore what’s been distorted.

Thanks for sharing this—it’s a solid reminder that staying close to God’s Word, hearing it and sitting with it, truly has the power to revive us. 🙏
